Restore dull or oxidized paint:
All paint finishes, will deteriorate and dull over time whether they have a clear coat or not. This is called oxidation and is primarily caused by long term exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun. Darker colors especially black and reds absorb higher levels of UV and therefore oxidize sooner than light color finishes. To restore the gloss and remove the oxidation or dullness we recommend compounding when the surface is extremely oxidized and polishing or finishing when it is only mildly oxidized.
Basic Procedure
For mild surface oxidation we recommend polishing with a mild polish such as Menzerna Micro Polish or C-Klear 707. After polishing, finish with Hi Gloss 707 or your favorite wax or paint sealant. For severely oxidized surfaces we recommend first compounding the surface with Menzerna Powergloss. If you find the surface still too hazy or dull use the Menzerna Intensive Polish to remove another light top coat and get to the paint hidden underneath. If you feel that the Menzerna Powergloss removed most of the oxidation you can go directly to the next step and use the Menzerna Micro Polish to remove the fine swirl marks or light blemishes that are still on the surface. As a final step finish we would use Hi Gloss 707 to bring out the shine of the paint. These are the same steps used by body shops and professional detailers.
